You may have only been a member of the Frontier for a short while, but that doesn't mean we can't all wish you a happy birthday. I dropped a few requests among the members when I saw it coming up in the calendar, and we've got a few things here for you as gifts. ;D
The man approached the gates of the Frontier, eagerly glancing inside. At his side stood the shadow known as Peach, both of their blonde heads blowing in the rapid winds. “Looks like I made it here,” the man said to his shadow, “Give me a bit to look around the city. I doubt I’ll need any extra help fighting.” The shadow nodded, returning to her own dimension. The man smiled, gripping an azure pendant that dangled in front of his olive green shirt. “This should be fun,” he thought to himself as he walked into the town.
Noshi and iFox sat a short distance from the gate, working out a new performance. “Alright, this time when I play a C, try and sing the same C, ok?” Noshi said, looking at iFox. She sighed, listening to the note and matching the tune perfectly. “Great!” Noshi yelled out, putting his piccolo into his lap as the stranger approached. “Is that iFox?” the man asked, looking at the admin. “Nish?” she returned, smiling to herself, “Well it’s about time you showed up here.”
Noshi hopped up from the statue he was sitting on, jumping lightly to the ground as Nish walked forward. “Nice to meet ya”, he said, extending his free hand, “Any friend of iFox’s is welcome as far as I’m concerned. Name’s Noshi, and your name, Miss?” Nish looked a bit taken aback, firmly grabbing Noshi’s hand while responding, “The name’s Nish.” Noshi looked Nish square in the eye, smiling. The wind began to pick up, blowing Nish’s fine blonde hair out of his face, and it was at this point that Noshi uttered the words that he would never be allowed to forget. “Holy crap, you’re a guy!”
“Hmph! Ignore him for a bit, Nish, and I’ll go ahead and show you around the city.” Noshi smiled to himself, waving as the pair walked off. “I’ll be sure to welcome you for real in a bit, Nish!” he yelled after them, quickly running off as iFox turned to glare at him. “Quick, Nish, check for your wallet,” she said, eyeing Noshi suspiciously. Nish instinctively grabbed the pendant around his neck, opening it and removing a small device. “He’ll have to try hard to steal from me, don’t worry.”
“Cool! What’s that?” Spyke’s voice was the next one to greet the group. He sat on an archway leading down the path that they were on, balancing precariously on his left foot while swinging his gladius without losing his balance. “And who do we have this time?” Nish called out, eyeing the blade and the high-speed movements that Spyke displayed. “My name is Spyke but don’t worry about a thing unlike Noshi I’m not a thief I mean we’re friends and all but he sometimes goes a little too far and it’s nice to meet you what’s your name?” As Spyke held out his hand to shake with Nish, iFox sighed. “At least he isn’t in one of his super hyper moods today,” she thought to herself.
Nish watched Spyke for a few moments, trying to make sure that the handshake wasn’t some kind of trap. While waiting impatiently, Spyke eventually just grabbed Nish’s hand and shook it. “Ok then, it’s nice to meet you,” he said, walking away from the new member. Nish stared at the green, spiky haired fighter. “What just happened?” he asked after a few moments. “Not much,” iFox responded, “He more or less just greeted you as he does everyone.” The two continued towards the arena, watching carefully for any traps that Noshi would leave around.
The two passed by a large stone sculpture, the sound of a hammer and chisel meeting stone nearby. “Jordn, you over there?” iFox called out, signaling for the artist to reveal his head. “Yeah, what is it?” he asked, looking directly at Nish, “And who’s the new loser?” Nish sighed, looking Jordan square in the eye. “The name’s Nish, kid,” was all he said. Jordn stood straight up, psionically floating himself over to the newcomer. “Kid, huh?” he said, obviously ready to throw down, “Let’s back up your words, shall we?” As Jordn began to charge psi energy into his mind, the ground beneath him opened up, dropping him into a large pitfall. The roof of the pit closed shortly afterwards. “Sorry about that, I guess I missed, Jordn,” Noshi’s voice seemed to come from nowhere.
“Don’t mind him,” Noshi continued, a few eggs flying near the pair, “Just continue on will you?” The two looked in the direction the eggs had come from, seeing a Yoshi quickly run out and disappear. “That’s really weird,” iFox said, looking at the alleyway, almost as if hoping to see Noshi, “Because he normally never, EVER misses with his traps, especially since you weren’t paying attention.” Nish shrugged, continuing on the path. “Maybe the trap for us isn’t that one,” he suggested, signaling for iFox to catch up to him.
The sound of an accordion floated out of the arena, its screeching bringing the pair to a halt. “Oh, how in the world did Stark make this thing? Oh, what in the world can make it swing? Won’t you tell me?” Gigi turned a corner, his hair flowing around his shoulders and legs. A blank stare crept across Nish’s face as he stared at the scholar. After a few moments, he finally managed to utter out a “What?” Gigi sighed, looking to iFox with tear-filled eyes, still playing his accordion. “Oh iFox, it’s a tragedy. Everything inside’s a catastrophe. Won’t you please come in and see? Oh, and also, who this be?”
The blank stare on Nish’s face quickly spread into an all-out “What the heck are you talking about?” After several uncomfortable moments, Nish finally managed to introduce himself to the scholar. Gigi straightened himself, bowing before Nish while his hair began to fly wildly in the wind. “It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance,” he said, returning to a normal stance, and smiling, “My name is Gigi, and I’m sure we can handle this inside.” Nish looked the scholar straight into the eye. “You were just crying a second ago. I know you were,” he said as he cautiously walked inside, watching Gigi’s every move.
Gigi’s hair wrapped itself around his body, allowing him to cross dimensions and teleport over to Nish’s side. “Don’t worry my friend. You, I won’t offend. Watch out for the bend. We’re almost to the end,” he said, singing along with the tune the accordion put out. Nish leaned over to iFox, whispering, “Does he do this a lot?” She giggled, answering, “Maybe about once a week or once every other week. You get used to it after a while.” Nish continued to stare at Gigi, walking directly into the conveniently placed trapdoor that dropped him into the center of the arena. The lights around the arena flashed on, blinding the newcomer for a short moment.
“Ladies and Gentlemen,” Noshi’s voice boomed throughout the empty arena, “Today, we have a very special event. Visiting us from an unknown land is the warrior Ni-OW!” he shouted as iFox kicked him, having entered the radio room from the hallway. “What do you think you’re doing?” she asked after turning off the mic. Noshi did his best to get an innocent look onto his face. “Gould warned me that someone would be showing up, because his Luc saw her on the way in. I was told to bring her here and get her into the arena.” He looked outside as iFox sighed. “Is that why you were surprised Nish was a guy? You do realize that this might not even be the same person, right?”
“So you think someone else is going to suddenly show up without reason?” Noshi countered. He shushed her with his hand, turning the microphone back on. “Picking up where I left off, Nish!” he yelled out, messing with a few controls on the lighting to slowly enhance the view of the bridge that led to the arena. “And entering the arena, we have the one and only, the great leader of the frontier, the dancing wonder Gould!” Gigi’s accordion could be heard somewhere in the arena, but a lobbed egg from Noshi’s favorite shadow, Yoshi, quickly took care of that.
Gould chuckled as he slowly made his way into the arena, looking directly at Nish. “Mind telling me what’s going on, Mr. Leader?” Nish asked, noticing a strange whirring noise start up around him. All of a sudden, his vision of the area shifted from that of the arena into a frozen field, stretching beyond the limits of his sight. “What?” he asked, looking around for some sign of iFox, Gigi, even that Yoshi from before. The only ones around were him and Gould, though. “We’re here to battle,” Gould said, summoning energy from the realm the shadows stayed in, “To make sure you’re not a threat to our city. I’m sorry if this seems odd, but these are trying times.” The shadow manifested itself into the shape of a Lucario, which quickly rushed in, trying to attack the unprepared Nish.
Nish’s hand reached into the ground, grabbing a large mushroom and holding it in front of him. As Lucario charged in, the mushroom suddenly released a cloud of spores. Manipulating his own abilities, Nish caused the mushroom to grow, eventually taking on the shape of Luigi. The pair charged past the stunned Lucario, synchronizing their attacks against Gould. Luigi reached his position first, firing off a quick fireball that flew in a horizontal line towards its target. Nish began to float, ready for Gould to jump over the fireball for a counter attack, but instead watched in despair as Gould blew his own wave of fire from his mouth. “You’ll have to try harder than that,” Gould taunted, charging Luigi with surprising speed. He rammed directly into the shadow’s chest, sending him flying upwards into Nish.
Nish caught Luigi in a parasol that he quickly opened, allowing himself to slowly return to the land. He smiled, holding up five fingers and counting down. “Five. Four. Three. Two. One.” As he said one, the stunned Lucario began to convulse, its body erupting into a cloud of turnips. Both Nish and Luigi quickly fetched the turnips, throwing them with increasing amounts of force at Gould, interrupting his plans to charge in and attack. In a fury, Gould grabbed Luigi, flipping their bodies over and landing on the ice with a sickening thud. The ground beneath them began to crack and open from the massive amount of pressure, threatening to drown Gould as Luigi disappeared.
As Gould’s body began to slide into the ice, a hand reached out and grabbed his. Nish slowly pulled Gould back onto solid ground, barely managing to keep from losing his traction on the ice. As the two gasped and panted back on safe ground, Gould raised his hand into the air, signaling that he wanted the match to end. As the arena faded, Nish found himself able to breathe easier. “That’s some crazy technology you guys have,” he said, smiling to himself. “Yeah,” Gould said, “and Gigi and Noshi don’t have more than the basic knowledge to run it. I’m betting you do, though, don’t you?” Nish looked at Gould shocked. “How…”
“You knew immediately that it was technology without having been introduced to it before or being in a situation that it could be run. I think it’s safe to say that you know what you’re talking about.” Nish opened his mouth in shock as iFox, Gigi, Spyke, and Noshi entered the arena. “It’s not like we needed to see the thing around your neck either, but that helped,” Spyke said, “I’ve got an incomplete design of something similar at home, but there’s no way I could get the stuff to actually finish a portable teleporter.” The group smiled as Nish raised himself to his feet. “So, let me get this perfectly-“ Noshi cut in, tired of the explanations. “Look, I’m just going to say welcome aboard and go home, ok? I need sleep now, seriously.” Nish laughed at the blunt statement, nodding in agreement as the group showed him the way out of the arena. “Oh, one more thing,” Noshi said, lobbing an egg into the air. Nish quickly fell into another trapdoor, cursing on the way down. “I told you I’d get you sometime,” Noshi yelled, smiling as Nish worked his way back up the ladder that lined the hole.
