I thought this little gem up while making another one of my surprise tourneys, tell me what you think of it. If anything is confusing at all, please tell me, and I’ll try and clarify it for you. Also, this is something I want as many members of the forum as possible to hop in on, so feel free to spread it a bit. I’ll do my best to manage it.
The War Game:
How it works:
Basically, participants are split up into pre-made teams of brawl characters (Ex: Second Surprise Tourney). You will have to battle other teams for the right to control territory, a.k.a. the available stages in Brawl. As of now, I have five teams set up, and there’s forty one stages available in Brawl, meaning each team will get eight stages with Final Destination remaining as Neutral Ground. You can not claim Final Destination as part of your territory until you have at least half of the other stages under your team’s control. Matches will commence as follows:
Four stocks
No items
Stage: Whichever stage is being invaded
One player from either side (Note: If you attack a stage, you will not be available to defend the next time you are attacked)
No time limits.
Best of three, use a different character every round.
How teams work:
Each participant is required to join one of the available teams. Now, to prevent any one team from overpowering too much, it is required that you pick a team besides the most populated one. You may choose to defect to any team you wish later, assuming there is no more than a one player difference between your team and the team you’re switching to. (Ex: Manti is on Team A, Gray and Abbie are all on Team B, Manti may not defect to Team B because Team A does not have the members to support it if he does.) In order for your defection to be valid, at least one half of the members on the team must give the ok after you have played them on one of their territories. This means you have to play every single member of the team, or at least half of them with all of them saying yes. (Note: Teams with odd numbers of players will be rounded UP for deciding this, meaning if it has seven, at least four have to say yes.) (Ex: korny is on Team D. He wants to defect to Team A, which is occupied by Manti. He plays Manti on Mario Bros., and Manti accepts him (Note: he did not win the match, but Manti thought he did well.)) (Ex2: Gray is on Team C along with Gigi and Spyke, and wants to switch to Team E where Sumote, Nish and hbo are. He plays all three of them, but Sumote and Nish don’t believe he did well enough to join. He stays on Team C.)
Attacking and Defending:
In order to win, one specific team must be in control of all forty one territories. To do this, the team must send its members out to attack the territories controlled by other teams. You state in the thread which territory you wish to invade and who is doing the invading. The defending team will then assign one member to protect the territory. If they do not have one available, you will win the territory by default. If you send someone out to attack, however, they will not be available to defend against an enemy attack. Also, if you defend a territory, you will not be able to defend another territory until you’ve cycled through all available defenders.
Examples: Manti is sent by Team A to invade Yoshi’s Island (Melee), and it’s defended by Sumote from Team B. Winner decides which team gets the stage. Meanwhile, Team C sends Gray to try and attack Team A’s Battlefield, which is in turn defended by Stevo. Then Team D may choose to attack Team C’s Delfino Plaza, and Team C, having only Gray, will lose it by default. At the same time, Team E attacks Team A’s 75m with Abbie, and Team A, having no one to defend it because Stevo is still defending Battlefield and Manti is attacking Yoshi’s Island (Melee), loses it by default.
(Note: Any team may defend neutral territory if they wish. First defender to post will get the spot.)
Losing:
Your team is no longer able to participate if all your territories become controlled by other teams. If this happens, you may choose to either quit out of the game or be distributed to another team at random. Once a team loses, their characters are no longer available for any of the teams.
However, you may still defect to a team of lost characters if you can manage to take over one territory of your own (kind of like causing a revolution among your team). At this point, you will return the dead characters and will once again make it a functioning team, although you'll only have your one territory at the time.
Time:
To make things a bit easier, I am going to include a bit of a time limit on defending a territory. Each team has one week to assign a defender if they are invaded, and the battle will be set up. Now, when invading, please post in the thread where you are invading so that everyone can see, as well as who is invading so I can update the third post. When defending, please tell me who is defending in the thread as well.
