A Pokemon Adventure

Chapter One: Abbie’s First Gym Battle
The mysterious youth stared down at an awestruck Abbie from his perch at the top of the Rhapsody Town Pokemon Gym. He was very tall, although a bit fat, had short brown hair, and he seemed to be squinting constantly. “Are you sure you want to challenge me? I’m no pushover, and you’re just a rookie. I wouldn’t want your pokemon to get too badly hurt...”
“Are you kidding??” Abbie said, somewhat insulted, “Of course I still want to challenge you! What, you think I’d back down just because you helped me?”
“Well, I--” the young man started.
“Look, I know I just started out, but how am I ever going to make it as a trainer unless I take a risk every once and a while?”
“Very well, then,” he sighed, “step up onto that platform over there and I will raise you up to my level. Wouldn’t want anything to accidentally hit your pretty little face, now would we?”
‘Is this guy serious??’ she thought. “No... I guess not...” she followed his directions and got on the platform. “Now wha– WOAH!” The platform she had been standing on suddenly jerked and continued to rise until it was level with the one on which her opponent was standing.
“You ready?” he asked.
Abbie nodded. “Mhm. Let’s do this!”
The referee called out, “This will be a one on one pokemon battle between challenger Abbie, and leader Jordan! Commence!” He lowered the red and green flags he had been holding up at angles, officially signaling the start of the match.
‘So that’s his name. Jordan, eh? Alright Jordan, I hope you’re ready!’ “I choose you, Mizu!” said Abbie with as much confidence as she could muster, doing an epic pointing pose and putting her leg up on the platform’s edge. Squirtle hopped down off the platform and into the arena, which was consisted of a large pool of water with 7 round platforms all chained together and to the wall of the pool.
“Hehe, you’re really trying hard aren’t you?” He had to keep himself from laughing. “Ok then, let’s try out our battling... Go, Flamberge!” he threw the pokeball and out popped an oh-so-adorable little Vulpix. It cried out with a very cute “Vulpiiiix~!”
“OMIGOSH!! She’s soooooo cute! <3", Abbie drooled. “I mean I saw her before, but still!! And I thought you called her ‘Lady’...?”
“Meh, I wanted something cooler.” he shrugged. Alright, let’s get this started!! Flamberge, use Quick Attack!” the vulpix dashed as quick as lightning towards squirtle and tried to bash him.
“Mizu, get outta there!” Abbie shouted. Squirtle obeyed, and jumped to another platform just in time to avoid the enemy’s strike. “Follow it up with Bubble!” Squirtle reared back, cheeks puffed out, then spew a multitude of bubbles from it’s mouth.
“That’s no bubble! That’s a bubblebeam! Alright, Flamberge! Counter it with flamethrower!” Jordan’s Vulpix spewed a stream of fire from it’s mouth, decimating the bubbles Squirtle had conjured.
“Woah! Mizu dodge that, quick!” Abbie cried. But it was too late, for Squirtle had taken the impact head on. “Mizu, are you okay?” Squirtle nodded and did his best to look bold. ‘Oh man, I’m obviously out-matched... What can I do?’ She thought for a moment, when all of a sudden...
“Alright, Flamberge! Use swift!” Jordan called out from his side of the arena.
“Omigosh! Uh.. Uh... Mizu, use withdraw! Then, water gun!!” the Squirtle quickly hopped inside his shell and used his water gun to propel himself forward with enough force to dissipate the swift and slam into Vulpix, knocking her off the platform. “Woah! That actually worked?? SWEET!”
“Oh no! Flamberge can’t swim!! Don’t worry, I’ll save you!!!” Jordan shouted in mild panic. “Go, King Dedede!” Jordan threw a pokeball over the stadium, and an extremely powerful-looking Empoleon was summoned.
“Leader Jordan has brought too many pokemon to the field, therefore, challenger Abbie is the winner!” declared the judge.
“Dedede, go get Flamberge!” Jordan shouted. The large penguin pokemon rushed into the water, seizing Vulpix in his beak and bursting out of the water. He lay the vulpix onto the ground, and the gym lifeguard rushed to her side, making sure she was ok.
“She’s alright, Jordan. Don’t worry, everything’s going to be fine.” the lifeguard reassured him.
“Thanks. *sigh* Phew. That sure was exciting... But, as the ref said, you won. Congratulations. Here, take this. It’s the Tsunami Badge.” Jordan said with a bit of uneasiness.
“... No way.” Abbie said, “You lost on a technicality. And besides, I saw that Empoleon. You were obviously holding back because I’m a rookie. So I don’t want this badge. Not yet. I want to really earn it.”
Jordan stared at Abbie for a moment, but realized it and began to speak. “Very well, then. I’m sorry. I just... I...” Just then, the doors to the gym burst open, and a tall man appeared, seemingly a few years older than the pair on top of the gym platforms, which were now descending.
“Which one of you runs this dump?” he said with a smirk. He noticed Abbie first. “I hope it’s not you, my darling, I would hate to have to put a frown on that pretty face of yours.” he finished with a wink. Abbie giggled.
“It’s me. I am the leader of the Rhapsody Town Gym. And who might you be?” Jordan announced.
“Me? My name’s Zak. And I’m here to mop the floor with you, chump!”
Chapter Two: A Surprise Guest
The two males were now set up in their gym challenge positions on opposite sides of the gym. “So you’re the gym leader, eh? Hehe, not exactly what I was expecting. Aren’t you a little young to be a leader?” said Zak, quite arrogantly.
“I’m as old as I need to be to beat a punk like you.” Jordan retaliated. “Alright, so what do you say to a good old one on one, eh? Sound good to you?”
“Ha! That’s boring! How about three on three?” Zak chuckled.
“Fine. Let’s just get this over quickly.” Jordan uttered. “I’ll choose first. Come on out, King Dedede!” Jordan threw the pokeball out and his Empoleon from before came out, ready for some action.
“Is that all you got?” Zak taunted. “Alright, let’s go, Lucario.” he finished with a slight toss of the pokeball, releasing a Lucario. “Let’s go, chump! Lucario, Aura Sphere!” His Lucario struck a very “kamehameha”-esque pose, charging up an Aura Sphere attack.
“Dedede, use Dive!” shouted Jordan. The Empoleon dove under the water and disappeared from view.
“Really? Did you honestly think that would work? Lucario can see your Empoleon’s aura! He can still WIN! And besides, you can’t dodge an Aura Sphere! Get him, Lucario!” When he finished, the Lucario released his Aura Sphere into the water.
“Dedede, get outta there!” Jordan yelled, as Dedede rose from the water. “Quick, use Aqua Jet!” King Dedede rushed towards Lucario with blinding speed inside a swirling tsunami of water. He had barely made impact, however, when the Aura Sphere came out of nowhere and crashed into him.
“Hahaha! I told you! You can’t escape the power of the Aura!” laughed Zak as he proceeded to command Lucario to use another Aura Sphere.
“Dedede, use Hydro Pump!” commanded Jordan. The Empoleon immediately started spewing a forceful jet of water from its mouth, making direct impact with the Aura Sphere. “Yes!” said Jordan triumphantly, just as the Aura Sphere broke through the Hydro Pump and made direct impact with his Empoleon. “Gah! Are you kidding me?” It was obvious his Empoleon wasn’t cutting the mustard against Lucario, so he decided he would switch out. But before he could...
“Alright, Lucario, Force Palm, go! Let’s finish this!” In the blink of an eye, Lucario jumped over to Empoleon and slammed his palm right into it’s face (while still in the air), sending him toppling into the water.
“Empoleon is unable to battle! Lucario is the winner!” shouted the judge. Jordan quickly thought about who his next choice would be. Then, it hit him.
“Alright, come on out, Riptide!” said Jordan, as he sent out his next pokemon, a huge Swampert. “Ok, Riptide, let’s get him with Mud Shot!” The Swampert shot out a stream of mud at Lucario, who quickly dodged
“Use another Aura Sphere, Lucario!” commanded its trainer.
“More spheres? Is that the best you can do? Riptide, show him your Hammer Arm!” The Swampert swung its arm with all it’s might, returning the Sphere back to its sender, who proceeded to fall into the water. “Perfect! Now follow him into the water!” commanded Jordan. The Swampert dove into the wet abyss and, moving through the water just as fast as he did above the surface, greeted the Lucario with a friendly Hammer Arm uppercut. Lucario proceeded to float up to the surface of the water, completely KO’d.
“Lucario is unable to battle! Swampert is the winner!” declared the judge with enthusiasm.
“What?!? Lucario, how could you lose like that?” he paused and regained his cool. “Fine, whatever.” Zak said as he recalled his fallen partner. “Alright, come on out, Breloom! Show him who’s boss!” He tossed the pokeball casually and a Breloom possessing lightning-fast reflexes popped out. “Let’s see what you do with this one, kid!”
“What? Did you just call me a kid??” Jordan asked, a bit agitated. “Alright, Riptide! Let’s go! Use Ice Beam!” The massive Swampert reared back and let out an almost blinding beam of pure ice at its foe.
“Really now? Breloom may be grass type, but you forget, he’s fighting type, too! Alright, Breloom, give him your signature Mach Punch!” The Breloom dodged beam after beam, bobbing and weaving to and fro, inching closer and closer to it’s target. “Now, Breloom!” yelled Zak as his pokemon seemed to disappear and reappear right behind Swampert, punching him in the back of the head, sending him flying forwards. “Alright, Breloom, let’s end this! Take in some sunlight!” Zak commanded.
“That can only mean...” Jordan thought to himself. “Riptide! Get outta there!” But it was too late. Swampert staggered back up to it’s feet when Breloom was done charging his laser.
“Fire!!!” screamed Zak in sheer adrenaline fueled enthusiasm. Breloom reared back, then fired a Solarbeam straight at Swampert.
“Riptide! Dodge it, quick!” Jordan warned, but it was too late. The Solarbeam hit Swampert in the back, KO’ing it instantly.
“Swampert is unable to battle! Breloom is the winner! The pokemon count is now 2 to 1!” said the referee, quite obviously.
“I’ve only got one choice left, eh? Well, better make this one count...” ‘Oh, man,’ Jordan thought ‘Obviously, a flying type would be best against his Breloom, but I don’t have one of those! Argh... What should I do?’ He thought about it for a few seconds before finally deciding “Alright, here we go! I’m counting on you... Let’s go, Darkwing!” Jordan threw the pokeball and a Golduck was what appeared, looking confident and ready for a fight.
“Can’t let you do that, Jordan!” said Zak with a slight British accent. “Alright, Breloom, show him what you’re made of! Get him with Giga Drain!”
“Darkwing! Get out of the way! Use Double Team!” and with that, Golduck proceeded to move at lighting fast speeds, making several holographic copies of itself on each platform. Breloom’s Giga Drain attack had hit one of the Golduck , but not the right one. “Perfect! Okay, Darkwing, give them some Fury Swipes!” The Golduck from each platform then all came at Breloom at once, slashing him all over, and doing some pretty good damage.
“Aw, are you kidding? That’s not cool! But I’ve got something else for you! Breloom, use your Fling attack! Go!” commanded Jordan’s challenger. Breloom rushed over to each Golduck and grabbed it until it found the right one, which surprisingly only took three tries.
“What are you doing?” queried Jordan.
“Well, since Breloom can’t learn Seismic Toss, we improvised a little! Ok, Breloom! Give him a good throw!” Breloom proceeded to slam Golduck into the ground, run over to him, and pick him up again. He then continued this several times, until Golduck finally fell into the water, escaping this chain of grabs.
“What the heck was that?” said Jordan. “That was cheap! Have you no shame? *sigh* No matter. Alright, Darkwing, you hear me? Let’s bring out your secret weapon! Use Psychic, now!” and with that command, Golduck leaped out of the water and landed on a platform a few yards away from its opponent. It put its hands on its head and concentrated, when all of a sudden, Breloom started floating in midair, enveloped in a strange blue aura.
“Breloom! Can you move?” asked Zak to his pokemon, but it was to little avail. The Breloom was now being flung across the room slamming into wall after wall, until ironically laid gently back on his feet in the same spot as before. “Breloom! Are you alright?” But Breloom didn’t respond. He was confused! “Breloom! Use Solarbeam!” Breloom looked at its master curiously, and proceeded to punch itself in the face, knocking itself out.
“Breloom is unable to battle! Golduck wins!” the judge said with a bit of excitement. “This means it’s down to one pokemon each for our leader and challenger!”
“Jordan. I swear. You will NOT win this match. If it’s the last thing I do, I WILL defeat you!” Zak said with as much arrogance he could muster. “Don’t let me down, Houndoom!” Zak threw the pokeball with a little more force. A Houndoom came out of the pokeball this time, looking ready to hunt its prey.
“Ha. Using a fire-type against a water-type?” quaffed Jordan, “he doesn’t stand a chance!”
“Not necessarily, said Zak casually, “for he is also a dark-type, and is immune to your psychic-type attacks.”
“Great. That’ll just make my victory all the sweeter,” retaliated Jordan confidently.
“Go! You can do it, Zak!” cheered Abbie. “Kick his a**!”
“Hey! Why are you on his side all of a sudden?” pried Jordan.
“Oh... Uhm... Go Jordan!” said Abbie with a classic anime sweatdrop. Jordan mumbled something under his breath and went back to the battle.
“Alright, Houndoom! Show that Golduck what you’re made of! Use Crunch!” Zak’s Houndoom rushed Jordan’s Golduck, ready to bring it’s massively powerful jaw down on any part of is body it could get to.
“Golduck, use Surf!” commanded the gym leader. And somewhere, off in the distance, he thought he could hear a tiny voice saying, “GYM LEADERS DON’T USE HMS!!!” but he decided to ignore it. Golduck generated a giant wave of water that came crashing down on Houndoom. Or, that is to say, it WOULD have, if Houndoom hadn’t gotten out of the way just in the nick of time.
“Houndoom! Use Smog!” Zak was very confident in his strategy. Houndoom opened its mouth and released a black fog into the air, covering the field in a thick layer of smoke.
“Darkwing, use confusion on the platform you’re on!” commanded Jordan. Golduck used his psychic powers to levitate the platform he was standing on out of the water.
“Bravo. That was clever... Not letting the type of your opponent restrict the moves you use.” stated Zak. “But I’m clever, too. Houndoom, use flamethrower!” Houndoom proceeded to breath a steady stream of fire into the bottom of the platform Golduck was standing upon. The platform heated up from the fire so much that Golduck lost his concentration and was forced to abandon the platform mid-flight.
“Oh no...” Jordan uttered.
“Now, Houndoom, use fire blast!” Houndoom reared back and let loose an intense blast of flames, formed in the shape of what seemed like a star. The blast made direct impact with Golduck, slamming him into the wall behind.
“Come on, Darkwing! Get up! We can’t lose this one!” Jordan pleaded. Golduck rose to his feet, stumbled forward a few feet, and collapsed.
“Golduck is unable to battle. The winner of this Gym Battle is challenger Zak, from Melody Village!” announced the referee.

“I’ve only got one choice left, eh? Well, better make this one count...” ‘Oh, man,’ Jordan thought ‘Obviously, a flying type would be best against his Breloom, but I don’t have one of those! Argh... What should I do?’ He thought about it for a few seconds before finally deciding “Alright, here we go! I’m counting on you... Let’s go, Darkwing!” Jordan threw the pokeball and a Golduck was what appeared, looking confident and ready for a fight.
“Can’t let you do that, Jordan!” said Zak with a slight British accent. “Alright, Breloom, show him what you’re made of! Get him with Giga Drain!”
“Darkwing! Get out of the way! Use Double Team!” and with that, Golduck proceeded to move at lighting fast speeds, making several holographic copies of itself on each platform. Breloom’s Giga Drain attack had hit one of the Golduck , but not the right one. “Perfect! Okay, Darkwing, give them some Fury Swipes!” The Golduck from each platform then all came at Breloom at once, slashing him all over, and doing some pretty good damage.
“Aw, are you kidding? That’s not cool! But I’ve got something else for you! Breloom, use your Fling attack! Go!” commanded Jordan’s challenger. Breloom rushed over to each Golduck and grabbed it until it found the right one, which surprisingly only took three tries.
“What are you doing?” queried Jordan.
“Well, since Breloom can’t learn Seismic Toss, we improvised a little! Ok, Breloom! Give him a good throw!” Breloom proceeded to slam Golduck into the ground, run over to him, and pick him up again. He then continued this several times, until Golduck finally fell into the water, escaping this chain of grabs.
“What the heck was that?” said Jordan. “That was cheap! Have you no shame? *sigh* No matter. Alright, Darkwing, you hear me? Let’s bring out your secret weapon! Use Psychic, now!” and with that command, Golduck leaped out of the water and landed on a platform a few yards away from its opponent. It put its hands on its head and concentrated, when all of a sudden, Breloom started floating in midair, enveloped in a strange blue aura.
“Breloom! Can you move?” asked Zak to his pokemon, but it was to little avail. The Breloom was now being flung across the room slamming into wall after wall, until ironically laid gently back on his feet in the same spot as before. “Breloom! Are you alright?” But Breloom didn’t respond. He was confused! “Breloom! Use Solarbeam!” Breloom looked at its master curiously, and proceeded to punch itself in the face, knocking itself out.
“Breloom is unable to battle! Golduck wins!” the judge said with a bit of excitement. “This means it’s down to one pokemon each for our leader and challenger!”
“Jordan. I swear. You will NOT win this match. If it’s the last thing I do, I WILL defeat you!” Zak said with as much arrogance he could muster. “Don’t let me down, Houndoom!” Zak threw the pokeball with a little more force. A Houndoom came out of the pokeball this time, looking ready to hunt its prey.
“Ha. Using a fire-type against a water-type?” quaffed Jordan, “he doesn’t stand a chance!”
“Not necessarily, said Zak casually, “for he is also a dark-type, and is immune to your psychic-type attacks.”
“Great. That’ll just make my victory all the sweeter,” retaliated Jordan confidently.
“Go! You can do it, Zak!” cheered Abbie. “Kick his a**!”
“Hey! Why are you on his side all of a sudden?” pried Jordan.
“Oh... Uhm... Go Jordan!” said Abbie with a classic anime sweatdrop. Jordan mumbled something under his breath and went back to the battle.
“Alright, Houndoom! Show that Golduck what you’re made of! Use Crunch!” Zak’s Houndoom rushed Jordan’s Golduck, ready to bring it’s massively powerful jaw down on any part of is body it could get to.
“Golduck, use Surf!” commanded the gym leader. And somewhere, off in the distance, he thought he could hear a tiny voice saying, “GYM LEADERS DON’T USE HMS!!!” but he decided to ignore it. Golduck generated a giant wave of water that came crashing down on Houndoom. Or, that is to say, it WOULD have, if Houndoom hadn’t gotten out of the way just in the nick of time.
“Houndoom! Use Smog!” Zak was very confident in his strategy. Houndoom opened its mouth and released a black fog into the air, covering the field in a thick layer of smoke.
“Darkwing, use confusion on the platform you’re on!” commanded Jordan. Golduck used his psychic powers to levitate the platform he was standing on out of the water.
“Bravo. That was clever... Not letting the type of your opponent restrict the moves you use.” stated Zak. “But I’m clever, too. Houndoom, use flamethrower!” Houndoom proceeded to breath a steady stream of fire into the bottom of the platform Golduck was standing upon. The platform heated up from the fire so much that Golduck lost his concentration and was forced to abandon the platform mid-flight.
“Oh no...” Jordan uttered.
“Now, Houndoom, use fire blast!” Houndoom reared back and let loose an intense blast of flames, formed in the shape of what seemed like a star. The blast made direct impact with Golduck, slamming him into the wall behind.
“Come on, Darkwing! Get up! We can’t lose this one!” Jordan pleaded. Golduck rose to his feet, stumbled forward a few feet, and collapsed.
“Golduck is unable to battle. The winner of this Gym Battle is challenger Zak, from Melody Village!” announced the referee.
