Now that I've got (or lost) your attention, I'll continue on. When it was still fairly new, I got into the Spyro: The Dragon series, and it was fun. Well, recently (mostly for the apparently non-existent nostalgia), I picked up a copy of the new Spyro game, Dawn of the Dragon.
First things first: if you liked Spyro for the old platforming games, with the complicated gliding and jumping puzzles, or the decently challenging bosses, this is NOT your game. That said, it is very refreshing to see the purple guy running around once again (even if everything seems to try and look a lot more 'mature' now). It plays more like a kind of a Zelda game more than a platformer (run around, kill enemies, use special abilities (items in Zelda, magic here) to solve the occasional puzzle. It doesn't actually teach you any new abilities at the point I'm at so much as tell you how to do the ones you already have <_<), but it's still fairly enjoyable, and it moves rather fast.
One thing that's a bit weird is that it seems that you won't get ANY of the storyline (unless there's some prequel game that I missed). Also, I can't help but feel that they turned Sparx (you know, that awesome little dragonfly?) into a wanna-be Daxter (or whatever the heck his name was, I haven't played that game in ages). The music is very, very low and un-inspiring, it's a bit hard to fly properly, and I miss my charging ability and actually infinite fire breath.
But with all the negatives, I still like it and am still going to 100% clear it.
(P.S. This thread is also for discussion of all the other Spyro games, as well as which one you think was the best.)
(P.P.S. I still think the first one was the most enjoyable.)
